• Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve

Designated in 2000, the Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve is one of eight South African biospheres registered by UNESCO. Located in the coastal zone north of Cape Town, the area is a mosaic of diverse ecosystems and habitats, including marine, beach and frontal dune environments, wetlands and rocky outcrops. Many plant communities within the reserve have managed to adapt, despite the harsh environmental conditions.
