• LBMA and RJC Emphasis Responsible Sourcing in the Gold Industry

BASELWORLD 2012 – Two of the leading bodies in the precious metals industry explained, during a special conference presentation, why conflict-sensitive sourcing has become important in the gold supply chain and the important role gold refiners play in due diligence.

The London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) is an international trade association that represents the market for gold and silver bullion. The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) represents more than 360 members committed to promoting responsible, ethical, human rights, social and environmental practices in the jewellery industry.

The refiners’ due diligence will support customers in the watch and jewellery supply chain. LBMA and RJC also discussed the industry initiatives and the work by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.

“Determining the origin of gold in the jewellery supply chain will be a strong focus for companies affected by the United States’ Dodd-Frank Act or seeking to implement the OECD Due Diligence Guidance. The RJC is delighted to launch its Chain-of-Custody Certification Standard for gold and platinum group metals this week, in order to support companies seeking to apply greater due diligence in the watch and jewellery supply chain, whether for compliance, or as part of a responsible sourcing strategy,” said Fiona Solomon, Director, Standards Development, RJC.

“The LBMA has expanded its existing accreditation process for gold refiners to include responsible sourcing. The LBMA Responsible Gold Guidance is now a formal requirement of Good Delivery for all gold refiners, in order to ensure that all LBMA Good Delivery Refiners’ production is free from conflict gold. The Guidance formalises and consolidates existing high standards of due diligence amongst all LBMA Good Delivery Refiners,” said Ruth Crowell, Commercial Director, LBMA.

Note: PAMP is a referee of good delivery requirements for the LBMA and, as a part of our commitment to conflict-sensitive sourcing, achieved RJC official certification in December 2012.

    Nomination: Unique concept – “Leonardo”

Leonardo da Vinci is revered for his technological ingenuity. His prolific studies in science and engineering are as impressive and innovative as his fine artistry. His work, “Vitruvian Man” is regarded as a cultural icon. Here, PAMP has depicted the famous sketch spread over 24 fine .999 silver proof quality legal tender coins – and using our unique ‘edgeless’ printing technology.

Nomination: Silver Coin of the Year – “Russian Icon: Holy Trinity”

This coin depicts the famous icon which is stored in the temple of the Holy Patriarchs Hebron, the oldest of the cities mentioned in the Hebrew scriptures. He image depicts the appearance of God to Abraham in the form of three angels. PAMP has created this .999 fine silver coin with a convex shape and edgeless minting. It is proof quality and with partially coloured, high relief.

Nomination: Coin classic – “Calliope Muse of Poetry”

Calliope whose name means ‘beautiful voice’, is the muse of epic poetry. The eldest and wisest, Calliope was the chief of all the Muses and inspired many of the great epic poems of Greek literature, including Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, that tell of heroic deeds and events significant to ancient Greek culture. Here PAMP has created a classic motif in proof .999 silver with several levels of frosting technique.
