  • Standards Definition and Implementation Initiatives

PAMP forges the template industry-wide for responsible precious metals supply chain practices

As a vital company within the MKS PAMP GROUP, PAMP plays a leading role in the formulation and implementation of responsible precious metals supply chain practices throughout the industry.

PAMP has consistently made accountability to its position within the precious metals supply chain a top priority. Routinely exceeding industry and government regulations, PAMP rigorously monitors its suppliers, regardless of industrial purpose, to ensure that each supplier meets stringent criteria of impeccable ethics and business practices, including financial conduct,  safety of employees within the workplace or in the field, and minimizing its impact on the environment.  In the case of Artisanal and Small scale Mining (ASM), PAMP takes the extra step to support mines with limited resources and willing to progress towards an improved social and environmental impact.  That PAMP undertakes such measures is evidence not only of its commitment to upholding its global reputation, but also, and most significantly, because doing so is the right thing to do. And it is for those reasons that regulatory bodies worldwide consistently seek the expertise of PAMP, above all others, when implementing and maintaining regulatory statutes.

PAMP has played a leading role in the definition of the various standards developed for its industry as well as for upstream and downstream industries. Namely, PAMP played a major role in the formulation of:

PAMP is also committed to the implementation of responsible supply of precious metals practices through its leading role in a number of implementation initiatives:

    • OECD Guidance : PAMP is an active member of the Multi Stakeholders Steering Group for the implementation of OECD Due Diligence Guidance  as well as different working groups established by the OECD Secretariat to facilitate the implementation of the Guidance
    • LBMA : PAMP plays a leading role in the evolution of the Responsible Gold Guidance as well as the development of best practices for its implementation
    • Swiss Better Gold Association (SBGA) : PAMP  co-founded this association in April 2013 and actively supports its goal to provide Artisanal Small and Medium Scale Miners (ASMM) better working conditions, as well as more effective and improved environmental policies
    • Public & Private Alliance for Responsible Mineral Trade (PPA) : PAMP joined the PPA in 2013. PAMP plays a definitive role in the transference of PPA successes in other minerals to conflict free, legitimate and responsible gold trade with the Democratic Republic of Congo
    • Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI) : PAMP has long collaborated with the RMI and joined as an upstream member in 2019. PAMP collaborates with RMI to advance key topics related to responsibly sourced precious metals (and by extension other metals)

    Group Policy and Compliance

The MKS PAMP GROUP has issued its Responsible Precious Metals Group Policy, which sets our commitments for responsible supply chain ethics.

Along with many principal international accreditations, PAMP’s prestigious status as an Ordinary Member of the LBMA is further evidence of its long-term commitment to full compliance with ethics regulations and guidelines required within the industry worldwide.

In 2015 the LBMA awarded PAMP the Responsible Gold Certificate, making PAMP the first refinery to pass the stringent auditing process. The audit and certification are the result of the LMBA's Responsible Gold Guidance initiative, implemented to avoid contributing to conflict, human rights abuses, terrorist financing practices, and in order to comply with high standards of anti-money laundering.

PAMP was the first Swiss Refinery to pass the LBMA Responsible Gold Audit. Both the PAMP Independent Reasonable Assurance Report and the PAMP LBMA Compliance Report, are available for download by clicking on the following links:
